Abstract

The location of internal hemorrhoids of 137 patients was studied.
In general, there were three main groups in the anal canal ; one was located on the left side (left lateral pile), and the others were on the right side (right anterior and right posterior piles). The averages of prolapsing score were 2.64 ± 0. 88 (left lateral piles), 2.88 ± 0.92 (right posterior piles), and 2.62 ± 1.03 (right anterior piles) respectively (lt-lat/rtpos : p <0. 005 ; rt-pos/rt-ant : p <0. 05 ; lt-lat/rt-ant : NS). The features of each hemorrhoid were as follows : those of the left lateral piles were broad and usually not prolapsed, those of the right posterior piles were apt to be prolapsed and those of the right anterior piles were narrow.
It was suggested that the erosions of hemorrhoid were signs of prolapse. Fissures accompanied by piles tended to exist with right piles and located in anterior or posterior lesions.
