Description

LVR has become the mainstream in Europe as a new surgical procedure for rectal prolapse, and the outcomes of the surgical procedure have been reported by many institutes in recent years. We performed LVR in 26 patients with rectal prolapse from September 2011 to March 2013 and evaluated the outcomes and safety. The mean operative time was 215±68.5 (121-430) min, the mean blood loss was 20.2±31.4 (0-150) ml, and the mean duration of postoperative hospital stay was 3.1±2.1 (1-8) days. There were no serious postoperative complications. The recurrence rate was 3.8% (1/26). Bowel function scores (both FISI and CSS) were significantly improved postoperatively. LVR can be a good choice of treatment for rectal prolapse.
