We have examined urinary sediment from normal and sick persons and have always observed a small body resembling a platelet. And we have reported that the small bodies are a platelet and/or a cell component originated from a platelet and we term these small bodies "platelet-like body". The platelet-like bodis in urine of 36 normal adults were counted. The range of the small body count in 1 mm3 of urine was from 20 to 4, 800 (mean values ± 1 SD, 961.54 ± 1190. 76). The small body count in a day did not relate to count, adhesiveness and aggreggtion of the platelet in peripheral blood. The small body count in a day had no relations to the values of Ccr and PSP. Although the osmolarity of urine did not assay, there was a significant relation between the small body count in 1 mm3 of urine and specific gravity of its urine (p<0.001). The small body count in urine samples which were obtained from urinary bladder and both kidneys at almost same time was about equal. Although further investigations are required, we would like to assume that the small bodies are excreted through the glomerulus and stated that the significance and life history of platelets in a living body should be reexamined.
