A 62-year-old male was admitted to our hospital with complaints of dyspnea and hemosputum. An X-ray film of his chest revealed bilateral enlargement of the cardiac silhouette and multiple abnormal shadows in both lungs, suggesting metastatic lung cancer and metastatic pericarditis. But no primary lesion could be detected and the patient died two and a half months after admission. At autopsy, a primary hemangiosarcoma of the right atrium was found complicated by metastases to both lungs, the liver, the right kidney, both adrenals, the omentum, the diaphragm, and pulmo-hilar, mesenteric and coeliac lymph nodes. Primary malignant cardiac tumors are extremely rare and are usually sarcomas, especially hemangiosarcomas. In Japan, only 12 cases of primary cardiac hemangiosarcouia have been reported up to now, including this case. The present paper reperts statistical analysis of 62 cases of primary cardiac hemangiosarcomareported in Europe, U.S.A., and Japan.
