Description

The theme of this paper is to make clear what is called "HATTATU SYOGAI (Japanese)" in adulthood, which can be translated into "developmental disorders" in English. No one, however, finds same terminology or concept in ICD-10 and DSM-IV-TR other than "Psychological Developmental Disorders" in ICD-10. The developmental disorders are stipulated in the law that the concept contains pervasive developmental disorders, learning disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Japan. Those are understood to be constitutional disabilities and continue to show almost the same symptomatology during lifetime. The well known issue is that the developmental disorders in adulthood have a lot of comorbidities such as mood disorders and personality disorders. That makes a complex condition and difficulty to diagnose fundamental developmental disorders. Author recommends clinicians always to pay attention to the existence of developmental disorders in every patient with emotional and/or behavioral problems.
