Description
In this paper, the author introduced current topics about treatments and researches of eating disorders (ED). DSM-IV are revised to DSM-5 this year. In the revised manual, some changes are shown, in which, for example, binge eating disorder (BED) is included as a specific diagnosis. The evidence base for Anorexia Nervosa (AN) has improved and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has retained and extended its status as first-line therapy for Bulimia Nervosa (BN). In pharmacotherapy for BN, anti-psychotic agents like TCAs, SSRI, Anti-Epileptics and so on improved Binge-eating and abstinence rates. A new biological therapy which is Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is now being studied in patients with eating disorders. In biological studies, neurobiological network mechanisms are speculated. AN suggests a hyper-responsive emotional and fear network to food and decreased activation in the ventral fronto-striatal circuits during the performance of a cognitive flexibility task. BN suggests a hypo-responsive reward system to food stimuli, especially to taste reward.
