Abstract

Purpose : This study aims to reveal the psychological characteristics of patients with anorexia nervosa-binge-eating/purging type (ANBP) as compared to patients with anorexia nervosa-restricting type (ANR) on the basis of DSM-IV. Subject and Method : The subjects were 23 ANR-type patients and 10 ANBP-type patients admitted in a hospital. We administered the Rorschach test (Comprehensive System) to all the subjects, and compared the results between the two types. Result : ANBP-type patients were more likely to be highpervigilant, as they were affected by external factors and difficult to change themselves because they could not identify their problems. They were more likely to adhere to their body images, accommodate their behavior to circumstances, and have peculiar thinking.
