We reported a case presenting marked dysprosody relative to articulatory disturbance since onset, who improved precipitately. The subject's lesion was in the inferior portion of the left central gyrus.<BR>His utterance was noted by dysprosody features such as‘syllable segregation and prolongation, ’‘syllable repetition, ’‘slow speaking rate’and‘monotonous speech.’On the other hand, it was not characterized by articulatory disturbance such as syllabic‘distortion’or‘substitution.’Moreover, we could not find any significant difference between spontaneous speech and reading and repetition tasks. This was not identical to the features of apraxia of speech suggested by Darley.<BR>A case reported by Araki et al. demonstrated similarly marked dysprosody relative to articulatory disturbance. In that case, lesions were located in the bilateral inferior precentral gyri. Based on these cases, we believed the left inferior precentral gyrus is related to prosody.
