説明
To learn how aphasics use syntactic abilities in their daily communications, we examined their syntactic and communication abilities. Syntactic abilities were assessed by STA (Syntax Test of Aphasia) and a picture explanation task. As for communication abilities, CADL (Communication Abilities in Daily Living) was used. At the same time, communication abilities were assessed by their families using a family questionnaire. Thirteen of the 16 subjects (81.3%) whose communication abilities were at the “independent” or “practical” level according to CADL were able to use the word-order strategy to comprehend sentences. As for production abilities, 12 of the subjects (75%) were able to produce reversible sentences whose subjects are not agents. The results of the picture explanation task, when compared against the normal controls, showed that the aphasics used shorter sentences to explain the pictures, but their sentence variations were similar to those of the normal controls. Therefore, the syntactic usage of the aphasics was adequately good to explain the pictures. The family questionnaire about the communication abilities of the subjects showed that the percentage of assessment which showed the practicality communication was 70% and higher, although fluent aphasics were assessed relatively high compared to non-fluent. Also when we compared assessments among “speaking”, “listening” and “verbal communication”, there were no specific features detected in the aphasic.
