Description

In spite of wide usage of basal body temperature (BBT) of non-pregnant women in gynecological field, the most part of its pattern during pregnancy still remain obscure. Therefore, basal body temperature recordings were observed on five patients throughout their entire pregnancies. Their common patterns could be devided into three periods : -1) conception period (averaged 14.8 days), 2) high temperature period (averaged 71.8 days) and 3) declining period. The highest temperatures were mostly observed in the fiorst trimester, and averaged 37.25℃ which is 0.2℃ higher than those of post-ovulatory phase. The lowest temperatures were noticed in the third trimester. It was also observed that, even in the end of declining period, temperature levels remained higher than those of pre-ovulatory phase. Our results suggest that basal body temperature in pregnancy may have some diagnostic values as an index for embryonal or fetal care in obstetrical field besides the early diagnosis of pregnancy.
