Aerodynamic aspects of laryngeal function were analyzed automatically by use of a newly developed analysis system (PI-100) . Parameters of this system consist of air flow rate (ml/sec), intensity (dB) and fundamental frequency (Hz) obtained with a PS-77 phonatory instrument, as well as subglottic pressure obtained from a miniature pressure transducer through the glottis.<BR>Analysis using a PC-9801RX computer was programmed to immediately provide calculated values of glottal resistance, subglottal power, acoustic power and laryngeal efficiency (acoustic power/subglottic power) . The values of these parameters and the relations between 2 and/or 3 parameters were revealed on a TVscreen and printed out on paper.Data showed clear relations among the parameters obtained from this system in normal subjects. As a result it was concluded that this computer analysis system (PI-100) may be useful not only for evaluating phonatory function under various conditions but also for research into the mechanisms of singing.
