The relashionships of postheparin lipolytic activity (PHLA) to insulin response, blood glucose level, serum triglyceride (TG) and HDL-cholesterol in diabetics were investigated. To measure the PHLA, we used plasma from normal subjects added to Intralipid as substrate. Furthermore, the effect of apoprotein on the PHLA was investigated using plasma from patients with hypertriglyceridemia and nephrotic syndrome instead of normal plasma. The following results were obtained.<BR>1) A positive correlation was observed between PHLA and ΣIRI (p<0.05), and between PHLA and the ΣIRI/bodyweight ratio. (p<0.02)<BR>2) No correlation was detected between PHLA and FBS, or between PHLA and HbAI.<BR>3) There was a positive correlation between PHLA and HDL-C (p<0.05).<BR>4) The mean value of PHLA in the group with high serum TG levels was slightly higher than that in the group with normal TG levels.<BR>5) Addition of the hypertriglyceridemic plasma instead of the normal plasma resulted in a slight enhancement of the PHLA.<BR>6) Addition of the plasma from nephrotic syndrome apparently supressed the PHLA. Furthermore, the plasma from nephrotic syndrome per se showed a low PHLA.
