A serious intoxication case of organofluorine pesticide “NISSOL”

Abstract

A 51 years old farmer was in unconscious state when he was brought into our hospital. Four days before admission he handled “Nissol” and low toxic organophshor “Smithion” about 9 hours at his farm of apples.<BR>Three days before he noted nausea, vomiting, headache, dizzines, sweatiness and light fever. In the midnight convulsion of limbs occured. Two days before symptoms became progressively worse.<BR>Examinations on admission revealed depression of blood pressure (100-70), incipient rise of body temperature, low blood sugar level (45 mg/dl), concussion of eye-ball and Babinski's sign.<BR>Then as an intoxication of Nissol we treated the patient with glucose solution (5 or 50%), acetamide, antibiotics, phenobalbital, cardiac stimulants and atropin. Fourteen hours after admission he recovered consciousness.<BR>Low blood sugar level and depression of blood pressure continued while about 7 days.<BR>He was out of hospital on the 20 th day.
