Abstract

This is a review of Japanese studies on the vector mosquitoes of dengue fever. The article consists of four parts. The first describes the process of vector incrimination with a focus on Aedes albopictus. The next, vector studies during the epidemic occurred in Japan, 1942-43. The third part summarizes recent advances in biological and epidemiological studies on Aedes albopictus, particularly after the second world war. Finally, I discuss the cause of the sharp increase in dengue fever during 1942 and 1943. A list of papers on dengue vector mosquitoes in Japan is presented.
