Abstract

A subcutaneous bird-parasitic blowfly, Trypocalliphora braueri (Hendel) was discovered in Hokkaido, Japan. Two larvae were found under the skin of the head of a nestling of Emberiza spodocephala. The fully mature larvae caused tumorous swellings and the subcutaneous cavities measured 11mm in depth and about 3mm in diameter. The larvae pupated 2 days after removal from the cavities, and the adults emerged 8 days after pupation. T. braueri is newly recorded from Japan and E. spodocephala is a new host record for the species.
