Abstract

We observed a pupation rate, an emerging rate, number of eggs laid and a hatching rate of Aedes togoi after exposure to two kinds of chemosterilants. An incidence of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa in the seminal vesicles was also examined by electron microscopy. The sterilization rate and the incidence of abnormal spermatozoa were 48.2 and 10.3%, respectively, at 0.01% metepa; 79.1,44.5,and 7.9,5.9%, respectively, at the concentrations of 0.05 and 0.01% hempa. However, the rates of occurrence of morphologically abnormal spermatozoa were lower than the sterilization rates. Although it seemed that there was little correlation between the sterilization rates and malformation rates of spermatozoa, the incidence of spermatozoa with multi-axial filaments increased with the sterilization rates.
