説明

A small wild cockroach, Chorisoneura nigra Shiraki, hitherto treated as Lupparia nigra by Shiraki, is redescribed and illustrated (Fig. 1-3,6,7,9-15). This name was first given to Taiwanese individuals, but it is also applicable to Japanese specimens found in Kyushu, Shikoku and Western Honshu. It may be worth to mention that this cockroach species has never been found from any island of the Ryukyu island-arc. A Chinese species, Ch. setshuana Bey-Bienko (1958) (Fig. 18) seems to be very close to our nigra Shiraki (1908). In southwest Japan Ch. nigra is usually taken from the branches or leaves of orange or pine trees. A pale coloured Taiwanese congener, once misidentified as "Ch. flavoantennata" was revised based on the type-specimen and additional fresh material (Fig. 4,5,16,17) taken exclusively from South Taiwan. This species seems to be allied to Ch. lativitrea (Walker) of Southeast Asia (Fig. 19).
