Abstract

Primary fallopian tube carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm. When the fimbria of a fallopian tube is not stenotic, most patients show wide dissemination in the abdomen. We report the efficacy of Paclitaxel/Carboplatin therapy as remission induction therapy in a patient with advanced fallopian tube carcinoma. A 76-year-old para 1 woman presented abdominal distension and massive ascites. Because abdominal CT image showed peritonitis carcinomatosa of unknown origin with multiple metastatic nodules and massive ascites, ovarian cancer and SSPC were suspected. Smear test of ascites showed adenocarcinoma. Then the patient underwent laparotomy for abdominal total hysterectomy and bilateral adnectomy. Pathological diagnosis was endometrioid adenocarcinoma of a fallopian tube (IIIc, G2~G3). She was treated with five courses of Paclitaxel/Carboplatin therapy as remission induction therapy. After three courses of therapy, elevated tumor markers returned to the normal range. Two years and 10 months after the operation, there are no signs of recurrence.
