説明

Eighteen multiple handicapped children with feeding disorders were treated by feeding therapy which consisted of inhibition and stimulation of oral muscle tone, mouth closing technique, gingiva massage and eating. After feeding therapy, fifteen cases were able to reduce oral hypersensitivity, sixteen cases gained anterior-posterior movement of tongue. Tongue elevation was perfrmed in fourteen cases, and tongue lateral movement in nine cases. Children who were relieved from oral hypersensitivity and gained better tongue movement were able to swallow foods more easily. Although ten cases who had been obliged to get nutrition from pernasal tube before, seven cases were completely independent from tube feeding.
Thirthy-one multiple handicapped children with central nervous system disturbance and fourteen healthy children were examined by electrogrottography (EGG). As the result of EGG, a group of seven children with severe dysphagia showed prolonged latency, delayed duration, increased number of phase, and increased number of swallowing which were statistically significant.
Main causes of the dysphagia in the multiple handicapped children seemed to be in the oral phase, and the feeding therapy was expected to be much effective except for those who had severe pharyngeal dysfunction.
