Description

An experimental study was performed in mongrel dogs for examination of thrombogenicity of the urokinase-treated vascular shunt tube. Urokinase was immobilized on polyvinyl chloride tube. Bypass was carried out for 2 hours period between the ascending aorta and the abdominal aorta. There was no thrombus formation at the inner side of all the tube, however the thrombus was seen in some cases at the site of insertion into the aorta. The remained fibrinolytic activity of the tube decreased remarkably in the outer layer both end of these tube. In the high activity urokinase-treated tubes (x3, UK) there was no thrombus formation. These results suggest that high activity urokinase-treated shunt tube would be useful for clinical application.
