Description

Dermoid cyst is painless, slow growing and most commonly occur in young adults. Histologically, this cyst is lined by epidermis like epithelium and contains dermal structures in the cyst wall. We report a patient with dermoid cyst in the floor of the mouth with a typical findings of marble pattern by MR imaging. A 19-year-old female noticed painless swelling in the sublingual region about 1 year before presenting at our hospital with increasing swelling. MRI was useful in the diagnosis of this case. On T2-weighted MR images showed a typical image of marble pattern of the mass. MR-signals of the marble pattern were moderate intensities and lower than that of fat. High intensity area filled the space around the marble pattern. We guessed that a cause of typical finding of marble pattern by MR imaging. Many ball-like solid components may be formed by keratin debris and fat tissues. These solid components may be filled with liquid components. Active and dynamic surrounding tissue in the sublingual region may influence marble pattern accompanied with the appropriate formation of ball-like solid components and liquid components.
