Abstract
Transport of pertussis agglutinating antibody and diphtherial antitoxic antibody to fetuses from mothers, and relation between antibody responses and immunoglobulin levels at the time of injection of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis combined vaccine were studied in premature, newborn infants and infants. 1) Pertussis agglutinating titer over protection level was found one week after primary immunization in 3 of the 8 premature infants, 1 of the 2 newborn infants, and 3 of the 4 infants. Diphtherial antitoxic titer over protection level was found 3 weeks after primary immunization n 4 of the 8 premature infants, all new born infants and infants. Tetanus antitoxic titer increased more favorably than pertussis agglutinating titer and diphtherial antitoxic titer. Besides, these booster injections resulted in a remarkable increase in pertussis agglutinating titer, diphtherial and tetanus antitoxic titer. 2) The pertussis agglutinating antibody and diphtherial antitoxic antibody which passed through the placenta were found to be 7S antibody. Primary response of pertussis agglutinating antibody produced by the injection of diphtheria, tetanus pertussis combined vaccine to premature and newborn infants was found to be 19S antibody, and subsequently 7S antibody appeared after 4-5 weeks. Primary response of diphtherial and tetanus antitoxic antibody was found predominantly to be 7S antibody. 19S antibody was found in about one-third of my cases. Besides, 7S antibody increased after booster injection.
