Abstract

It has been considered that penicillin allergy depends on degradation substances, polymeric products or proteinous impurities in penicillin derivatives. In our previous experiments, it was found the PCG polymer had antigenicity and activity to eliciting PCA in rats and 95 mg of PCG polymer was detected from 3000000 units of procaine PCG suspension. It was clarified that the thermostable homocytotropic antibodies to BPO-RSA and PCG polymer were detected in the serum of rats immunized with mixture of procaine PCG suspension and FCA. There was no existence of the cross-antigenicity between BPO-RSA and PCG polymer. These facts were confirmed by affinity chromatography. In the serum of a rat immunized with mixture of procaine PCG suspension in hydroxide aluminium gel, 48 hr PCA positive, thermolabile antibody was detected. However, in the control group of rats immunized with crystalline procaine PCG and PCG following the same method, any antibody could not be detected. From these results, it was suggested that PCG polymer may have the antibody forming activities to the rats.
