Abstract

The hearing tests were made on 1197 persons in two metal mines working under noise exposure. A worker who showed hearing loss over 20db at even one frequency were treated as occupational deafness.
1) Occupational deafness was found in 35.1% of 1197 workers.
2) The rate of occurence showed high rate in the workers serving for long years.
3) Similarly the rate of occurence showed a high rate in the older workers.
4) The grade of hearing loss had a tendency to vary from slight to worse in proportion to the age 20_??_60 years old.
5) The grade of hearing loss had a tendency to vary from slight to worse in proportion to the number of working years 6_??_35 years.
6) The distribution of high grade hearing loss and slight grade was shown nearly in the same in age group, but was not the same in the group years of service.
7) In one persons who was examined through 1, 2, 3, 4 years, the grade of hearing loss had a tendency to become slightly worse in proportion to the number of working years, at the same time the variance of hearing loss increased.
8) The variance of increased hearing loss is believed to be due to individual differences.
