抄録

A polypous fibro-papilloma deevloped in the upper trachea, just below the larynx of a 51-year-old farmer, who had been suffering from increasing cough and progressive dyspnea began two months prior to consultation, was extirpated under general anesthesia performed by intubation through tracheotomy opening. This tumor protruded into the tracheal lumen with broad basement including the second tracheal cartilage, and was 18×9×8mm in size. Microscopically, the core of this tumor consisted mainly of hyalinized, fibrotic tissue containing partially calcified cartilage and scattered leucocytic infiltrations, and its periphery was covered with epithelial lining with papillary proliferation of squamous epithelium, and characterized by the marked proliferation of the underlying mucous glands. At the surgical removal of this tumor, anomalies of the thyroid cartilage and weakness of the arcus of cricoid cartilage were manifested, and also, weakness and undernumerary development of the tracheal cartilages were noted.<BR>In conclusion, the abnormal movement of larynx due to these developmental anomalies of laryngeal and tracheal cartilages could be considered to have the causative relationship to the development of this rare polypous fibro-papilloma in the upper trachea.
