Abstract

A case of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), 39 years old male, was reported. Biochemical analyses on the constituents of lipid and phospholipid of the erythrocyte revealed increase of total lipids and especially of palmitic acid in contrast of decrease of linoleic acid. Although a coarse granular change in the ghoast membrane was observed electron-micrscopically in the patient erythrocyte, the specific structual abnormalities of the erythrocyte stroma in PNH were hardly determined for the moment. Activity of acetylcholinesterase of the erythrocyte was also decreased remarkably. The increase of the hemolysis and hemolytic factors in plasma were discussed according to lieratures, and 54 cases of PNH in Japan including the present case were riviewed.
