Abstract

In-situ tracer tests were carried out in Komesu subsurface dam reservoir to obtain dispersivity of aquifer for simulation analysis of saline water intrusion in future dry years. Tracer, salt melted in sea water or rare-earth metal, was injected into an observation hole in a steady radial flow field made by pumping at a production well 8.1 to 52.6 m distant from the hole. Concentration of tracer in the pumped water was measured continuously. Eight breakthrough curves were obtained by six tests around four different wells. Longitudinal dispersivity was estimated to be about 0.8 to 6.5 m using matching method with the standard curves by Sauty(1980). Some breakthrough curves are different in shape from the standard ones, with stepped peaks or very low depletion rate, reflecting inhomogeneity of the aquifer, Ryukyu limestone.
