Description
This paper reports the invasion of woody plants and the growth of Pinus densiflora on the man-madeslopes of the Meishin Expressway, which was built during 1961-62.
P. densiflora, which dominated the area around the slopes, started to invade 2-3 years after intialrevegetation works; most of the trees growing on the slopes invaded 5-6 years after that. Trees on fillslopes grew faster than those on cut slopes in their early stages. Later however, annual growth of thetrees on cut slopes became superior to those on fill slopes.
A number of woody species increased rapidly after the 18th-19th year, most of which are bird-dispersal plants.
