Abstract

In order to verify forest ecosystem recovery of reclamation forest, floor vegetation and the soil fauna were examined. While cover degree of the maximum upper story in reclamation forest became low in response to the impact by transplant, in the lower layer part, cover degree was high by growth of pioneer tree species, such as Aralia elata, Zanthoxylum ailanthoides, and Mallotus japonicus, or herb. Although it became low immediately after the transplant of the nature richness(the ratio of the nature richness of reclamation forest against the nature richness of the natural forest)which adopted the soil animal, it was recovered gradually. It was found that soil fauna was affected by various factors such as vertical profiles of canopy structure and micro meteorological factors such as solar radiation and soil temperature. Furthermore, these factors mentioned above showed high correlation compared with soil animal index. In the viewpoint of evaluation of the vegetation changes in the forest floor and clarification of the material cycling in subsurface area, floor vegetation and the soil fauna were effective as an evaluation index of ecosystem recovery of reclamation forest.
