Abstract
The median nerve and the ulnar nerve in the elbow were stimulated with a figure-of-eight coil, and the amplitude of M-waves of the abductor pollicis brevis and the abductor digiti minimi were recorded. The amplitude of M-waves were high when the direction of the eddy current just beneath the center of the coil was radial or distal in median nerve stimulation, and when it was proximal, distal, or radial in ulnar nerve stimulation. The discrepancy was attributed to the difference in the composition of the tissue surrounding each nerve.
