Description

A male Pied Wheatear Oenanthe pleschanka and a White Wagtail Motacilla alba ocularis in summer plumage were observed on Hekura I., Ishikawa Pref., on 1 May 1978. There have been only three records of the Pied Wheatear in Japan: a single bird seen in Ishikawa Pref. on 18 April 1976 and on 3 May 1977, and a male observed in Miyagi Pref. on 16 April 1978. The previous records for the White Wagtail (subspecies ocularis) are two (Yamaguchi Pref., Honshu; Danjo Is., Kyushu), but this subspecies would be of more regular occurrence in our country than the past records indicate.
