Abstract

An analytic solution of rotation characteristics of an eccentric elastic shaft considering the shaft as a beam, is presented. Comparing with the conventional method which simplifies the shaft rigidity, one can newly treat of the following points. 1. Influence of eccentricity of the shaft. 2. Position of nodes. 3. Distribution of bending moment and shearing force along the shaft. 4. Critical speed above the secondary order. Several experimental results on vibration, deformation and destruction of practical grinders are presented and correlations with analytic solutions are also discussed.
