Abstract
Two methods to delay the separation of flow in short conical diffusers are described. The 10°conical diffusers, the end of which is cut off, have great advantages over the simple conical diffusers of same length when the equivalent angle of divergence is greater than 20°. When the surface in conical diffusers is roughened near and after the separation point the efficiency of the diffusers increases. A method of analysing the effect of boundary layer thicknesses and of separation position on the losses of diffusers, is described.
