抄録

Chip, obtained by steel cutting, has two kinds of plastic deformation : the primary deformation occurs in flow region and the secondary occurs owing to the friction between chip and face of tool. To find the effects of cutting conditions on these deformation, orthogonal cutting tests or carbon steel were performed. We observed the cutting ratio, the direction of structure flow, the roughness of chip surface, the distribution of hardness in chip, etc. under various cutting conditions (rake angle of tool, depth of cut, cutting velocity). Furthermore, we proved the reasonability of presense of flow region, instead of a single shear plane insisted in the conventional cutting theory, by the difference between measured and theoretical angle of inclination of chip structure.
