抄録

For the purpose of finding the radical preventive measure of the wear and the damage on the gear-tooth the present study was carried out. This paper describes some experiments with roller testing apparatus with which the frictional moment and the electrical resistance between the rollers were measured at various driving conditions such as contact load, rolling speed, specific sliding and oil viscosity. Taking the dimentionless parameter ηνr/P where η is viscosity of oil, νr, is rolling speed and P is contact load, the critical values of the lubricating characteristics which have been classified into "fluid-lubrication", "semi-fluid lubrication" and "boundary lubrication" have been found. And the empirical formula of the frictional coefficient in the region of semi-fluid lubrication has been induced. The surface roughness of the rollers have a very considerable influence upon the frictional moment, and when the width of the contact surface is divided into small lengths, the formation of the lubricating oil film may be hinderd.
