抄録

We propose both an improvement of accuracy and a specification of effects of Prandtl numbers for Siegel's analysis on the transient free convection from a vertical flat plate of infinite width and finite length, which is initially at the ambient temperature in a quiescent fluid and is suddenly raised to a uniform higher temperature. The precise solutions for velocity and temperature profiles of differential equations for the initial stage of motion are obtained for any Prandtl numbers and also confirmed to be extremely the good approximation for steady state. As we use the above-mentioned solutions to obtain solutions to the time-dependent free convection equations of momentum and energy in an integral form, it will be expected that the present solutions hold a good accuracy for times, at which the purely one-dimensional heat transfer is terminated and the steady flow is established as a function of position along the plate.
