抄録

The characteristics of an axial-flow pump, which has a wide impeller passage usually in the radial direction, are affected conspicuously by the boss ratio at low flow rates. In this paper, the velocity distributions before and behind impeller blades and the pump characteristics were measured for some impeller blades to find the effects of the boss ratio on the impeller performance, and the radial flow in the impeller blades were treated theoretically. The main results obtained are as follows : The radial flow in the impeller blades is decreased cosiderably by the increase of the boss ratio, the circulating flows on the both sides of impeller blades, therefore, are decreased too. The increase of the boss ratio, also, results in the decrease of brake horse power at shut-off point as the occurence of an unstable zone in the discharge-head characteristics curve.
