Abstract

Eccentricity of a gear causes accumulated pitch error once in every period of one revolution. On the uniform depth tooth hypoid gear, formulas to calculate the above pitch error are introduced and meshing tests for such gears are performed by the Wakuri's bevel gear meshing tester. The calculated values and the results of tests show a good coincidence. These formulas can be applied to the spiral bevel gear without modification and also to the straight bevel gear by letting the spiral angle to be zero. Comparison of the calculated values with British Standard shows the fact that the eccentricity of precision gears should be within 0.01 mm.
