Abstract

In this paper, the authors analyzed theoretically the externally pressurized thrust collar bearings with single or double slit-supply. For the bearing with single slit-supply, they found the dimensions of the slit by the condition of maximum bearing stiffness, and obtained the load capacity and the flow rate as functions of radial position of the slit. For the bearing with double slit-supply, by the conditions of maximum bearing stiffness and maximum load capacity, they obtained the dimensions and optimum radial positions of the slits as well as load capacity and flow rate.
