This paper deals with the fatigue strength of discontinuity portions in the structures consisting of plates and shells. In conducting this study, "A resonance type fatigue testing machine" was constructed by author's design for the fatigue test structures, and the test was carried out using three-dimentional model specimens. As a result, the respective advantages and disadvantages of various forms of joint construction were assessed on the basis of the values of the endurance limit, and it was found that the construction having a toroidal shell midway between circular plate and cylindrical shell is superior to the construction in which a cylindrical shell is directly con nected with the inner edge of a circular ring plate.
