Description

In this paper the influence of strain wave form on fatigue life was investigated as one of the fundamental researches on fatigue phenomena under actual load. A torsional fatigue testing machine was designed to generate a composite wave form γ=γ1'sin (2πft)+γ2'sin (4πft), and some experiments were carried out on a mild steel. The principle of the machine is to combine two different strain waves γ1' and γ2'. The result is as follows : The strain amplitude smaller than the endurance strain γw has little influence on the fatigue damage. And the fatigue life under the composite waves are approximately predicted by using γp-N curve or γ-N curve and the linear damage law. Also, it has been revealed that the endurance strain limit is nearly equal to the torsional strain at yield point.
