Abstract

An oil burner of a rotary-arm type as shown in Fig.1 was designed in the light of the results obtained in the previous works, and combustion tests on kerosene and heavy fuel oil were made with the apparatus as shown in Fig.6. The facts revealed from the tests are as follows : (1) The states of combustion are classified, as shown in Fig.7, as (a) one body flame, (b) doughnut type flame, (c) combustion on a furnace wall and (d) a combined type of (b) and (c). Among these (a) and (b) may be used in practical application. (2) The shape or hardness of the flame can be varied in considerably wide range by changing the quantity of excess air or the speed of rotation. (3) High combustion efficiency is obtainable especially in the range of excess air coefficient of λ=1.1∼1.5. The design procedure of the burner of this type.
