Abstract

Motion of balls in ball bearings under thrust load was measured by means of flux change caused by magnetization of balls and compared with that under radial load reported in the previous paper. It is found that the observed data of the rotation of a cage are fairly coincident with the theoretical values considering the effect of the contact angle. However, the rotation of a ball about its own axis is appreciably different from the theoretical data, especially in the case of the angular contact ball bearing of the type 7307. It is further noted that the spinning motion of a ball in the deep-grooved ball bearing 6307 is caused by an axial vibration of the bearing. The rotation of a ball in the thrust ball bearing 53307 was also measured.
