抄録

In this paper, the elastic stress produced in a cylindrical bar due to a longitudinal impact is described. A steel bar vertically rests on a lead block. A striking bar, being guided by three cylindrical guides, collides with the test bar axially. The effect of the shape of striking bars on the strain-time records and the reflection of stress waves from a discontinuous plane are studied. Strains in the bar were measured as a function of time by germanium strain gages cemented to the surface of the test bar. The impact stresses are theoretically computed according to the elementary theory for longitudinal waves. The theoretical predictions show excellent agreement with experimental results.
