Abstract
Utilizing the physical meaning of interferrence of notch effects in two dimensional elastisity, the author developed a method of calculating the stress in a plate due to the effect of interferrence of many notches. By this method, the stress concentration factors of an infinite plate containing an infinite row of elliptic holes subjected to tensile load was calculated. When the ellipses degenerate to circular holes, the stress concentration factors obtained by author's method are in close agreement with the exact values obtained by Howland and Isida.
