説明

Emergency seals are used when the ship at sea is subjected to repairs and checks to the working seals. Emergency seals are required not only high reliability but also the function of the working seal because it can be expected that the ship is compelled to be at sea for a short time with the use of the emergency seal if the working seal failed to receive repairs.<BR>Conventional emergency seals have been applied rubber packings of hollow type and developed the function of the seals with the rubber expanded by applying a pressure inside. Against this, the seal having lately been developed has been applied a rubber packing of simple O-ring type. This is a new method to develop the function of the seal with a pressure applied from outside the O-ring for equal shrinkage to the shaft side.<BR>It has been confirmed through a series of experimental results that, compared with conventional types, the emergency seal of the new type provides high reliability, stability, and excellency in addition to the function of working seals.
