説明

Pantherinae seems to be different from Felinae in the structure ear marking. In the former, the basal cross band is well developed, frequently ascending towards the apical band along the posterior border; while in the south Asiatic group of Felinae, the basal cross band is strongly developed in its anterior portion, sometimes ascending along the anterior border. Ear markings of Panthera tigris, P. onca and Neofelis neburosa are considerably different from the rest of Pantherinae, but they may only be an aberrant form of this group.<BR>Tail markings of Felidae are less variable among individuals of a species but they are not so constant within the subfamily as in the ear marking.
