The scenery ephemeral (Utsuroi) is a heart-moving ephemeral in time and weather phenomena of a scenery such as seasonal moon's coming up, sun setting, or foggy raining. We studied the structure of the scenery ephemerals of the Edo Eight Views in Ukiyo-e Pictures, from the angles of viewing points, scenery ephemerals, and ephemeral emphasizing elements. We compared the Edo Views with the Omi and the Kanazawa Eight Views, and obtained the following results: 1. The sun setting is most often expressed. 2. Waterside viewing point is most popularly used. 3. Daily life elements such as roofs of houses and temples are often drawn as the scenery ephemeral emphasizing elements. 4. Others. These results would seem to contributute to planning and design of contemporary metropolitan townscape.
