Description

The antiviral effectiveness of commercially available povidone-iodine (PVP-I) products (isodine solution and isodine gargle) were investigated in vitro against animal coronaviruses such as transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV), and bovine coronavirus (BCoV). These PVP-I products at the concentrations of general use showed strong antiviral activity against the coronaviruses used in the present experiments. These results suggest that hand washing and gargling with PVP-I products are a very useful defense against viral infection.
