This experiment was carried out on the components of bovine skin tissue with special emphasis on nitrogenous compounds. The nitrogenous components of skin were divided into four fractions quantitatively: 10%-NaCl-soluble non-protein nitrogen, soluble protein (globular protein) nitrogen, half-saturated-lime-soluble nitrogen, and acid hydrolysate of nitrogenous components (collagen).<br>Then the division mentioned above was applied to samples collected from each layer of some portions of the hide. The results obtained indicate that the grain-layer sample contained more globular protein and lime-soluble nitrogenous components than the corium-layer sample and that no essential difference existed between the non-protein fractions.
